Designed with the spirit of a cultural celebration that honored both heritage and personal style, Malini and Brian’s destination wedding at Biolea in Crete was a beautiful meeting point of traditions and places close to their hearts. With the thoughtful guidance of Crete Within Weddings, the couple created a celebration that blended an American ceremony setting with meaningful Indian influences drawn from the bride’s family roots in the state of Kerala. For their wedding decoration, they envisioned a setting defined by simplicity and sustainability, incorporating traditional Kerala elements such as colorful florals in soft peach tones, bright brass lamps and earthy details like local fruits that added character and authenticity to the space. The ceremony altar became one of the most touching elements of the day, carefully designed to carry centuries old traditions into their modern celebration by the sea. As the bride shared, «The bridal ceremony altar was particularly special to us; seeing ancient cultural traditions from India carried through to our modern American ceremony in Crete was a surreal and very moving part of the day. Lana from Crete Within Weddings worked closely with my aunt to ensure that the altar setup was keeping with the traditions. It was really perfect». Throughout the celebration, colorful decor elements and meaningful cultural touches created a setting filled with personality and symbolism, while Argyro Bridal Make Up & Hairstyle in Crete ensured the bride looked radiant for every moment of the day. The result was a wedding that beautifully balanced tradition and modern celebration, a heartfelt gathering where family, culture and love came together in one unforgettable day on the island of Crete.

«We first met on a dating app, the good old-fashioned way, when we were both new to California! The years to come would bring a few years of adventure in California, a few more years of long distance on opposite sides of the country while we were both in graduate school, and finally moving together to New York City. Nine years to the day after our first date, Brian proposed με when we were on vacation abroad. It was private and heartfelt and perfect. Coincidentally, my custom engagement ring is inspired by the jewelry of Ancient Greece!»

Impossible to pick just one moment as my favorite one! Our first look was memorable for taking place under a cloud of Sahara dust! As we were waiting to head to the ceremony, raindrops the color of sand started falling. The light was otherworldly and uniquely gorgeous. We also loved our mothers’ readings during the ceremony; a passage from one of our favorite childhood stories and an Irish blessing to honor Brian’s cultural heritage.

«Our goal was for the wedding decor to embody simplicity and sustainability. My family is from the Indian state of Kerala, so we incorporated elements of traditional Kerala wedding decor like colorful florals in shades of peach, bright brass lamps, and earthy elements like local fruits. With the amazing vision of Caactus Care, we were able to achieve all of this with primarily reusable and biodegradable decor that worked in harmony against the muted greens of the olive grove. The bridal ceremony altar was particularly special to us; seeing ancient cultural traditions from India carried through to our modern American ceremony in Crete was a surreal and very moving part of the day. Lana from Crete Within Weddings worked closely with my aunt to ensure that the altar setup was keeping with the traditions. It was really perfect!»

«The advice I would give to a bride who is now planning her wedding is that: an experienced wedding planner will make every aspect of your wedding so much better, even for small and simple weddings. We owe everything about our magical wedding day to the exceptional team at Crete Within Weddings, led by Sveta. For the wedding week itself, let go of things you cannot change, be present and mark every moment, and commit to being joyful. When the couple is happy, it is impossible for others to not get swept up in their happiness!»

«My wedding dress was a Kerala set mundu. It is a very simple garment with two separate rectangular pieces woven out of ivory cotton and gold threads. I picked it out with the help of my wonderful aunts in India! Because the set mundu is draped for each and every wear, it was quite the effort to drape it the morning of the wedding! Thank goodness for my mother and best friends who woke up extra early to help me iron, pleat, and drape it! The gold jewelry pieces are also a very traditional and important piece of the bridal outfit. For the bridal reception dress, I wanted a midi dress in a classic fabric and silhouette that felt unfussy. I went with a custom dress from Markarian. It was a sleeveless midi dress with a corset bodice and drop waist in duchesse satin. A total dream!»
