Take it away Sarah!
In her own words: “I began blogging back in 2007 as a way to gather inspiration for my own wedding which was an intimate garden chic celebration in a historic Southern home along the Mississippi coast. It was everything I had ever wanted and I have absolutely no regrets. A few years later, my husband and I modeled for a wedding inspiration shoot in Paris – I wore my Mom’s gorgeous mod wedding dress from the late 1960s and it was fun to experience a completely different setting and style from our own wedding. If I were to re-imagine my wedding today, I’d keep most of it the same but change a few details here and there …”
The wedding style
“I loved the size of our wedding (around 50 guests) because we were truly able to enjoy every single person’s company so I’d keep that the same. And I also loved the garden chic style we created so nothing would change there, either!”
The color palette
“I went with a mostly all-white palette for my wedding with natural greenery as accents. There is something so clean and beautiful about a white wedding so I’d try to keep that the same, too! I’d definitely incorporate magnolia leaves again – I’d love to see thick garland swags of glossy magnolia leaves punctuated by creamy gardenias at the reception”
The wedding dress & shoes
“I’d be happy to wear the same dress and shoes again but because I think it would be fun to go through that process of dress shopping again (am I crazy?!), I’d love to consider a dress with long, alençon lace sleeves with a keyhole back and a long, trailing skirt of layered tulle. I’d also like to be more daring with shoe choice and splurge on something sparkly that I know I’d wear again”
The wedding ceremony location & wedding reception venue
“While I’d be extremely tempted to rent a house in Martha’s Vineyard and have our re-imagined wedding there (I fell in love with this laid back island last year during our summer vacation and can’t wait to return this August!), there’s something just so right about a Southern wedding for me. I grew up in Charleston, SC, and even though I haven’t lived there in years, it will always feel like home to me. So I’d love to have a formal church wedding in Charleston’s famous (and oh so beautiful!) French Huguenot Church followed by a glittering garden reception in a South of Broad mansion. I’m imagining a tented reception in a private courtyard that spills onto the home’s veranda …”
“This is one thing I wouldn’t change one bit from our wedding! I LOVED our cake and can’t imagine having it any other way. We did a 3-tier cake with rough buttercream icing (I love that texture!!) accented by gardenias and vintage cake toppers”.
“I love doing regional food favors – we packaged local salt water taffy in mason jars with ribbon for our wedding. For my re-imagined Charleston wedding, I think personally packaged Benne Wafers would be perfect and we could offer them along with a midnight espresso bar to keep the party going”.
What would/will you do to entertain your wedding guests
“I’d pretty much stick to what we did for our wedding – have a string duo play during the ceremony and cocktail hour; have a 5-course meal with plenty of champs and wine for our guests; and I’d add in a live jazz band for the reception – with lots of Sinatra covers!”
“Back in 2007, we honeymooned in Seaside, Florida – a charming town along the 30a strip on the Emerald Coast. And a few short months after that, my husband and I spent three years living in Europe and we traveled every free second we had so it almost felt like a three-year honeymoon!! Right now, I’d probably choose somewhere really beachy and relaxing like the Maldives … just sand, sea and palm trees! And lots of drinks with umbrellas in them”
